Robert Turner Wines History

Robert Turner WInes was founded with the 2004 Vintage by Bob and Shirley Turner.

Bob Turner began his winemaking odyssey in 1986 in Woodside, CA,making wine with a group of friends, and gained knowledge and experience with coursework at UC Davis. After moving from the peninsula to San Francisco in 1997, he became a true "garagiste", buying grapes from vineyards in Napa and the Russian River area of Sonoma Valley, and converting part of his garage into a winery. During this time Bob became the winemaker for a small Yountville( Napa Valley) winery, further honing his skills. By 2004 his passion for winemaking , and the barrels and equipment, had outgrown the garage space, and requests to buy his wine began to increase.

The garage winery moved lock, stock and wine barrels to Stoney Springs Vineyards, a small winery just north of St. Helena off the Silverado Trail, and Bob turned his pastime into Robert Turner WInes. He is the winemaker, overseeing all facets of the winemaking process, with constant attention to detail and quality. Annual production will be kept small, with a goal of 500 cases, the wines being sold only through a mailing list and in select restaurants and wine shops. Bob has also been consulting winemaker for a startup wine business called Contrail Vintners in 2008 and 2009.

A retired dentist, Bob had practiced in Palo Alto, California ,for 37 years, and still teaches one day a week at University of Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco. He is enjoying his new career as winemaker for a small, boutique label.
