Bob Turner

Bob moved to the Palo Alto, California, area in 1970 to start his career as a dentist, and to learn everything he could about wine. In 1986 he began his winemaking odyssey in Woodside, California, with a group of friends, and gained knowledge and experience with coursework at UC Davis. After he and his wife, Shirley, moved to San Francisco in 1997, Bob became a true "garagiste", buying grapes from vineyards in Napa and the Russian River area. Friends and neighbors became "assistant winemakers" during harvest and bottling.

By 2005 the barrels and equipment and demand had far outgrown Bob's garage and were moved lock, stock and barrels to Stoney Springs Winery just north of St. Helena off the Silverado Trail in the Napa Valley, marking the creation of Robert Turner Wines. As the winemaker, Bob oversees all facets of the process, with constant attention to detail and quality. Annual production is kept small at just under 500 cases, with the wines sold through a mailing list, distributors, and in select wine shops and restaurants.
